About Marco:
Marco Fernando Guarino is an Italo-Uruguayan American musician and P.h.D student in the American Studies Department at The University of Texas in Austin. His research lands at the intersection between music, technology, hemispheric American identity, and politics, with a focus on Black and Italian cultural production in the Americas. He is also a Program Coordinator at Texas Folklife, an Austin based foundation that supports the traditional and folklore arts across Texas. Here, he manages the
Apprenticeship Program, curates live performances, and produces recording sessions.
Marco grew up between New Jersey and Uruguay and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Latin American Studies at Kean University and his Master’s degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University. He has had various posts, including co-producing the Afro-Latino Festival in New York and managing Alan Lomax’s Latin American and African music archive for Association for Cultural Equity.
