About John:

John Pointer is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and actor who has been based in Austin since 1991. He has won 11 Austin Music Awards including Best Acoustic Guitar, Best Experimental Band, and Best Miscellaneous Instrument (Human Beatbox). He has written music for and starred in commercials for national brands such as Chili’s, Schlotzky’s, Subaru, and Walwart. He played Roger in RENT, Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, and himself in a movie with Harry Connick, Jr. He has performed and toured on four continents with numerous groups including Trio Los Vigilantes, The House Jacks, and Ozomatli. In 2010 he launched a startup, Patronism, the predecessor to Patreon, and in 2012 he launched The Live Music Capital Foundation, a nonprofit for putting community capital into live music venues so they can attract appropriate artists, promote them properly, and pay them fairly.
